Muscle Cars

Muscle cars came to prominence in the US in the 1950s, reaching peak popularity in the 60s and 70s, and can be loosely defined as affordable, mid-size 2-door (or sometimes 4-door) cars that have been fitted with a large, powerful engine for street use and drag racing.

They were never manufactured or sold in huge numbers, but were used by car manufacturers to lure buyers into their showrooms.

However, the ‘bad boy’ image of muscle cars has lived on, helped by their starring role in classic movies and TV series such as ‘Smokey and the Bandit’, ‘Vanishing Point’, ‘Bullitt’, ‘The Dukes of Hazzard’, ‘Mad Max’ and ‘Rebel Without a Cause’.
